I was not prepared for my first day with Invisalign. It's embarrassing how I knew my first appointment was coming up for weeks, yet I never even thought to Google how to prepare for the event. My mind was just so fixated on worrying about how to pay for the whole system (and meeting the rest of our bills) that it never occurred to me that a.) it might be miserable at the beginning, and b.) I would need to buy other tools.
Yesterday, for my first day, the ortho person gave me all the rules:
Wear the aligners for 22 hours a day
Take them out to eat or drink anything other than water, and stick them in the included case
Use Dawn dish soap or Invisalign's cleaning crystals (Invisalign provides three days of crystals)
Invest in an ultrasonic cleaning machine to avoid using a toothbrush on the aligners which will scratch and allow bacteria to grow
Wear the first three aligners for 2 weeks each
Call them if any of the “attachments” fall off of my teeth
Come back for my next checkup and new batch of aligners in 6 weeks
After my treatments, I'll need to wear a nighttime retainer for the rest of my life
What they didn't tell me? How to take the dang things off.
