To be honest, I don't have the tools, resources, or confidence to illustrate myself yet, so I'm using Canva and ChatGPT to try and render the right kind of images to fit the vibe I am going for. I'm embarrassed to admit that, but it seems to be the best option for now.
It is actually a frustrating endeavor since many errors come up and it's challenging to get the right tone. I can't even tell you how many ALMOST perfect images I rejected before finally deciding I can live with this one despite the tiny little fairy-sized book hanging out in the grass π€£ At least books aren't floating mid-air and there are no more random animal body parts hanging out in the background π€¦ββοΈ But yeah... it took an hour to get the right image for this post!
My big goal, and I'll write a post explaining this sometime soon, is to get back to drawing and painting regularly, and learn how to digitize my own artwork to create a cohesive brand and style. But it will remain in this children's illustration vein. So, eventually, I'll do all of my own illustrations for the website and my upcoming book, but I plan on releasing my own illustrations in a second edition, perhaps an actual printed edition. The first edition will be an ebook.
Shannon, who does your illustrations? They're delightful!
